Holiday Season - Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over
December 8, 2017 – January 1, 2018
The holiday “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Crackdown will take place December 8, 2017 – January 1, 2018. The holidays are known for being merry and bright, but they’re also known for being the deadliest season when it comes to drunk driving. Every holiday season, too many lives are lost due to impaired drivers.
Research shows that high-visibility enforcement can reduce alcohol related crash fatalities by as much as 20 percent. As law enforcement professionals and highway safety advocates, our efforts will help reduce the number of impaired drivers on the roads and save lives.
Nationally, in 2016 there were 10,497 fatalities in motor vehicle traffic crashes involving drivers with BACs of .08 or higher. This totaled 28 percent of all traffic fatalities for the year. In NJ the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over 2016 Year End Holiday Crackdown resulted in 1,605 DWI arrests (alcohol and drugs).
By increasing enforcement efforts and raising public awareness we can make a discernible difference in the national campaign to save more lives on our roadways during this holiday season.
So please join thousands of law enforcement officers, State and local safety advocates, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in this year's nationwide holiday drunk driving crackdown campaign by committing to Drive Sober. Together we can influence occupant safety and reduce drunk and drugged driving fatalities.
